Solid wood Care and Maintenance

Following these basic steps will help you protect your new furniture and increase its longevity Maintenance of your Oiled Furniture

This product has an oiled finish so we recommend Teak, Linseed or Danish Oil to maintain the surface. These products should be used sparingly but applied on receipt of goods, then every 4- 6 months over its lifetime. This action is necessary to replenish the moisture in the wood and ensure the product retains its natural appearance. Failure to follow these instructions may cause deterioration and invalidate the warranty.

Appearance of Cracks

Wood is naturally hygroscopic, thus the moisture content varies depending on the local humidity. Although your furniture has been naturally kiln dried local humidity changes may result in some cracking or movement. This is a completely normal response to the furniture’s environment but can be minimized by the regular oiling maintenance program.

General Care Advice

Always use heat resistant coasters or quality tablemats. This will protect the surface from hot or cold exposure. All liquids should be wiped up immediately with a soft cloth. A solution of warm soapy water and a clean household sponge could be used to cleanse sticky residues, but stay with the direction of the grain when wiping, and continue until surface dries. It is also important to include these surfaces in your regular dusting routines. Avoid spray polishes as they may contain silicone. Do not use any abrasive detergents or powders. Direct sunlight may cause fading, cracking or splitting.

Do not expose your furniture to direct sunlight

Excessive exposure to sunlight can cause fading of your furniture. Ornaments placed on the furniture surface should be periodically moved to avoid shading.

Do not place your furniture near heaters, dampness or moisture generating appliance

Extreme temperature and humidity changes can cause cracking and splitting. Some movement may be expected depending on environmental conditions. If the air is dry, some cracks may appear due to shrinkage. These should disappear when the moisture content increases.
